Chocolate Martini
6 May 2005
- 150g Cooking Chocolate
- 200ml Vodka
- 50ml Cointreau
- 100ml Coconut Cream
- 100ml Pouring Cream
I finally got around to making an attempt at the chocolate martini recipe that Simon Phipps posted recently to WebMink. As you can see, this recipe actually has real chocolate in it, and is far, far sweeter than the chocolate martinis most bars make.
I halved the amount for all the ingredients, and the resulting mixture was enough for 3 drinks, each just under 100ml, which is plenty, trust me. I also decided to use half plain vodka and half 42 Below kiwifruit vodka. The kiwifruit flavor holds up nicely so there’s no need to use any more than necessary out of such a small bottle. I also decided to leave out the coconut cream, so I added a little extra pouring cream.
I’m not really big on sweet drinks, so I can’t imagine making this often. It would make a great dessert though, perhaps garnished with a slice of kiwifruit, or an orange wedge.
If you don’t have the energy to go to that much trouble for a cocktail, here’s the recipe I use for a quick and easy chocolate martini:
- 45ml Vodka
- 15ml Creme de Cacao Brown
- 15ml Creme de Cacao White
Pour the brown creme de cacao straight into a chilled martini glass. In a mixing glass, gently stir the vodka and white creme de cacao with ice. If you shake them you will end up with little flecks of ice in the drink, which doesn’t look as good. Gently strain the mixture into the martini glass so that it floats over the brown creme de cacao.
